Common questions
Is a product in my kitchen recalled?
ClearShelf shows recall information from the FDA and USDA, but it can't confirm whether your package is affected. Compare the product name, size, lot code, and dates with the official notice linked on each recall, and follow its instructions. ClearShelf is not medical advice.
I'm not getting alerts.
- In ClearShelf, open Settings → Notifications and turn alerts on.
- In the iPhone's Settings app, allow notifications for ClearShelf and turn on Background App Refresh for it.
- Open ClearShelf now and then, and don't swipe it away in the app switcher. iOS doesn't refresh apps that were closed that way.
- Alerts depend on iOS background refresh and can be delayed. They don't replace checking official notices.
How do I restore ClearShelf Pro on a new device?
Open Settings → ClearShelf Pro and tap Restore Purchase, signed in with the same Apple Account you bought it with. Pro is a one-time purchase, not a subscription.
How do I get a refund?
Purchases are handled by Apple. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Why does a scanned item say "Scanned item"?
Product names come from Open Food Facts, a free community database. Some products aren't in it yet, and names can take a few seconds to appear. You can rename any item yourself.
How do I change my ad privacy choices?
Ads on the free plan are never personalized. Where state privacy law gives you choices, ClearShelf shows Settings → Privacy choices. See the privacy policy for details.
How do I delete my data?
ClearShelf has no account and keeps your groceries and settings on your device. Deleting the app deletes them. Copies may remain in your device backups until those backups are replaced. For anything else, such as emails you've sent us, email us and we'll delete it. See the privacy policy for details.
